Celebrating a goat industry trailblazer
The Gourmet Goat Lady empire began simply in 2008 with a single Boer goat named Olivia.
Almost two decades later, what started as a small family venture has evolved into one of Australia's most recognised premium goatmeat brands.
The business has been built on a foundation of quality, persistence and an unwavering belief in the potential of Australian agriculture.
Founded by Craig and Jo Stewart, The Gourmet Goat Lady carved out a distinctive niche in a market that was still finding its place in the broader Australian food landscape.
Back when goatmeat was often misunderstood or overlooked by mainstream consumers, Craig and Jo focused on education, flavour and provenance.
By supplying pasture-raised Boer goat to chefs, restaurants, specialty butchers and gourmet retailers, the brand championed and raised the profile of goatmeat as a premium protein worthy of fine dining menus and family tables alike.
This year marks the final year of operation of The Gourmet Goat Lady under the loving care of Craig and Jo.
The pair leave a significant legacy and contribution to the industry.

Achievements of The Gourmet Goat Lady include:

In partnership with Meat & Livestock Australia (MLA), the business also helped pioneer Australia’s first commercially approved 100 per cent goat salami, demonstrating the potential for value-added products in the sector.
Beyond awards, the Stewart’s contribution has been deeply tied to advocacy. Through food festivals, cooking demonstrations, media appearances and agricultural events, they introduced thousands of Australians to premium goatmeat and helped challenge long-held perceptions about how the protein could be prepared, served and enjoyed.
Craig’s involvement with the Goat Industry Research, Development and Adoption Committee further reflected the business’s commitment to strengthening the industry beyond its own commercial success.
The Australian goat industry has continued to grow in importance, supporting regional producers, encouraging innovation in niche livestock production and supplying consumers with a lean, versatile and globally significant source of protein.
The Gourmet Goat Lady has played a significant role in showcasing what is possible when quality, storytelling and industry collaboration come together.
As Craig and Jo prepare to close their chapter at the end of the year, The Gourmet Goat Lady stands as a respected brand with a proud legacy.
A story of passion, perseverance and belief in an industry with enormous potential.
For those who share a passion for quality food, Australian agriculture and premium goat products, there may yet be an opportunity to carry that legacy forward.
