Your levy, your say: GICA launches levy roadshow
By John Falkenhagen
The Australian goat industry today looks very different to what it did when our current livestock transaction levy was established in 1997. Back then, the scale, sophistication and demands on our sector were a fraction of what they are now.
Today, we are processing record numbers, servicing complex domestic and export markets and investing in projects that position goats as a maturing industry.
This growth hasn’t happened by chance and is built on the backs of our producers and stakeholders who’ve invested in the future of our sector. The levy plays a significant role in that – and it’s not just the cost of doing business.
Producers have spoken, and we’re responding with a review of the levy to ensure it is fit for purpose and prioritising areas of development that reflect the maturity of our systems.
And we all must take ownership of what the new levy looks like.
GICA has commenced the formal levy review process and wants to make sure all levy payers have a say in how their money is funding and growing our evolving industry.
We kicked off the consultation period with an online webinar. From next month, these conversations will continue face-to-face. Dates to keep in mind:

If you missed the webinar, you can watch it back on the GICA website, otherwise any questions about the consultation can be directed through our contact page.
The roadshow sessions will be held across every state, allowing producers to hear the proposal directly, understand how it has been developed, and ask questions in an open and transparent forum.
Our industry has matured to a point where standing on our own two feet is necessary. The decisions we make now will influence how effectively we invest in welfare, market access, research and industry capability into the future.
GICA’s message to producers is simple: this is your levy, your industry, and your opportunity to have your say. Register for your roadshow and come be part of the conversations. A strong, unified industry starts with all of us pitching in.
